BLUE PLANET FOUNDATION APPLAUDS HISTORIC ENERGY AGREEMENT

The Blue Planet Foundation today praised both Hawaiian Electric Company and the State of Hawai'i for their revolutionary agreement regarding Hawaii's energy future. The voluntary agreement encompasses new and expanded initiatives to bring more clean energy to Hawaii's homes and businesses and expand opportunities for energy efficiency. Credit for much of the agreement goes to William Parks of the U.S. Department of Energy and his efforts guiding the Hawai'i Clean Energy Initiative.

The Blue Planet Foundation billed the agreement as a revolution in how Hawai'i will generate and use energy in the future.

"This is more than a step in the right direction, this is a leap," said Henk Rogers, Founder of the Blue Planet Foundation. "It's going to take leaps to achieve our clean energy future."

"Today's agreement represents transformative change," said Jeff Mikulina, executive director of the Blue Planet Foundation. "It puts Hawai'i on course for cleaner energy sources, smarter use of energy, and lower utility bills."

"It is no easy task for a large company like Hawaiian Electric to fundamentally redefine its role and develop a new model for success," said Mikulina. "They are starting to do that with this agreement today."
