Hawai‘i climate policy leader Maxine Burkett will host global webcast from Mauna Loa Observatory operations site on Sep. 14

HILO—Organized by Al Gore's Climate Reality Project, "24 Hours of Reality" will feature 24 speakers across 24 time zones in a global multimedia event that confronts the reality of the climate crisis. Blue Planet board member Maxine Burkett, Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Island Climate Adaptation and Policy at the University of Hawai‘i will deliver the Hawai‘i presentation. The event will be broadcasted live from the operations office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Mauna Loa Observatory in Hilo. The research facility atop Mauna Loa has been monitoring and measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide since 1969.

The home for the webcast is climaterealityproject.org. Blue Planet Foundation, the Hawai‘i partner for the Climate Reality Project, will host a viewing party at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Media is invited to attend either event.
