Dana A. Barbata is an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Hawaii where she defends the United States in civil actions. Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, she represented individuals and business while in private practice, and she represented the State of Hawaii against constitutional and civil rights claims.
Dana graduated from Punahou School, obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University, and holds a J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. While at DU she completed an internship at the United Nations Environmental Programme in Paris France, clerkships at the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC and Denver, Colorado, and a clerkship at Denver Water, Colorado’s largest water utility.
Dana joined Blue Planet’s Ambassador Board in 2017 and was elected its Chair in 2019. She was recognized in Pacific Business News’ 40 under 40 cohort in 2019 and was listed in Best Lawyers Ones to Watch in 2020 for her Environmental Law and Professional Liability practices. Dana enjoys hiking, running, scuba diving, skiing, traveling, and spending time with family.
