As the Policy Fellow, Ryan closely works with government agencies and partners to design programs and deliver projects to reduce carbon emissions in the building and transportation sectors. He conducts policy research at the local and state levels, supports stakeholder engagement, and coordinates the development of sustainable transportation projects on O‘ahu.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, with a concentration in Environmental Studies from Soka University in Aliso Viejo, CA.
Ryan previously worked as a Consultant with the Natural Resources Defense Council, supporting the City and County of Honolulu to advance ambitious climate goals under the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge. He also completed a year-long AmeriCorps VISTA service term as a Program Specialist in Honolulu’s Complete Streets Office, where he helped to develop the City’s first transit-priority lane in four decades and construct quick-build projects to enhance pedestrian safety in high priority neighborhoods.
Ryan has a very high spice tolerance and is building a collection of the most potent hot sauces.
“I feel most fulfilled when I spend my time and energy working on initiatives to improve the lives of others. And I get to do this every single day at Blue Planet, working with a passionate and talented group of people who drive me to become better in the work that I do to address climate change.”
