For a healthier, more sustainable future, we must replace fossil-fuel-based electricity with new streams of clean, renewable power. In 2014, we canvassed 4,000 homes on Oahu to increase awareness about why we need a modern, “smart” grid.
In 2016, we installed free energy monitoring kits in more than 750 homes, helping residents lowering their electricity bills and their carbon footprint.
In 2016, we partnered with businesses in Honolulu to take the “Climate Pledge” to keep their doors closed while they used air conditioning during the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress.
Our Hui Up! appliance exchange program helped make clean energy accessible and affordable to local communities. Between 2011 and 2014, we replaced 394 old, inefficient refrigerators on Molokai and Lanai with new, high-efficiency models, saving families $500 a year on their electricity bills.
Partnering with schools and community groups statewide, we replaced more than 300,000 incandescent bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).
