The event brought together representatives from six states — Colorado, Minnesota, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Utah, and Wisconsin — as well as the U.S. territory of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Participants met with executives from Hawaiian Electric Company and the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, who shared their perspectives on achieving renewable-energy goals. The workshop included speakers from University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law, EarthJustice, and a former commissioner of the PUC. Site visits included the Puna Geothermal Plant and Mililani Solar Park, an agrivoltaics solar farm, offering practical examples of renewable-energy implementations.
NCEL Workshop
In December 2024, we collaborated with our sister organization, Blue Planet Alliance (BPA), the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL), and Hawaii State Senator Chris Lee, author of Hawaii's 100% renewable-energy mandate and current NCEL President, to host a workshop aimed at empowering U.S. states to make the transition to 100% clean energy.
